Reunification:
Charu, a female child aged five and half years with her brother Arun aged three years were found abandoned in a temple. The Police took custody of the children and produced them before Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Further, CWC placed the children at BSSK, Aurangabad for their protection and shelter.
Charu was very verbal and could share a lot about her past with the social worker. She shared her father was a very poor man. They had a small piece of land. Their mother was working as a cook in a hotel. Charu’s father was unhappy and suspicious with their mother’s behavior. Due to which both of them quarreled a lot.
One day, their mother took Charu and Arun and kept Kailash the youngest child aged two years behind in the house. She took them to another village where there was a temple. She left them there and she never returned. The children waited for a long time then they started crying. People around reported to the Police.
Charu spoke about a village but there were 2 villages of the same name. Both villages were very far from each other. We first tried to trace the father at the village which was closer to Aurangabad but it was in vain.
Then the next village in another district was very far from Aurangabad. We were not sure too confident of tracing their father, but took a chance. We had to take permission of CWC, Aurangabad for taking the children out of the District. We set out to trace the childern’s relatives with the help of the Police. We were fortunate as the villagers recognized the children. Charu’s and Arun’s father was traced finally. For over a month, their father was searching for his children without any direction. He had lost all hopes in seeing his children again. It was such a happy and relieving moment.
Social worker had a long discussion with him regards his responsibility towards the children. His financial condition was very poor and his wife was absconding. His situation was bad to raise the children alone in his home. He requested social worker to keep all the 3 children in an institution closer to his village. This would enable him to keep in touch with his children.
BSSK submitted the investigation report along with the father’s request to CWC Aurangabad. The Chairperson of CWC Aurangabad passed an order to the Children’s Home closer to their home where Charu, Arun and Kailash were admitted for their care and protection. BSSK then transferred the children to that institution.
BSSK counseled and advised the father in the best interests of his children they be restored to their home. As this was not possible the next best alternative was to keep the children in such a place whereupon they get to meet their father frequently.
Finally it was a happy ending as it brought back the smiles on the children and their father.
