Adopting a child is a big and important decision in one’s life. We do believe that ‘Parenting’ is an important responsibility. To assist prospective adoptive families in this process of preparation for parenting and adoption, BSSK organizes a one day workshop. It is mandatory for all Prospective Adoptive Parents to attend Parent Preparation Workshop.
This workshop is held regularly. Since January 2007, it is mandatory for every family to attend the workshop before the family is called for Adoption Study and to proceed thereafter in their adoption process. After Registration the families are informed regarding the suitable dates for the Workshop. Since we can accommodate limited number of families for each workshop, families are requested to give their date of preference at the earliest, to avoid disappointment.
Sometimes workshops are scheduled or re-scheduled depending upon the responses from the adoptive families.
The general outline for the workshop is as follows.
9.30 am to 9.45 am: Registration
9.45 am to 10.15 am: Welcome, BSSK Film, and Introduction
10.15 am to 11.30 am: Adoption – a life long process
11.30 am to 1.00 pm: Role of Nature and Nurture in Development Outcomes
1.00 pm to 1.30 pm: The Adoption Process
1.30 pm to 2.00 pm: LUNCH
2.00 pm to 2.30 pm: Interactive session with an adoptive family who has recently gone through the adoption process.
2.30 pm to 3.30 pm: Medical Aspects
3.30 pm to 4.30 pm: An adoptive family who has adopted many years back shares their experience
4.30 pm to 5.00 pm: Open session and feedback
NOTE: PAPs need to attend the whole day workshop and not in parts.
