Adopting a child from an organization is becoming increasingly popular with Indian
families. Adoptions are being done with the consent of family members. This
trend is very encouraging as more orphaned / destitute children are
being assimilated within their own culture.
1.Those
who have a medical problem and have been to infertility
clinics.
(Primary or Secondary Infertility).
2. There are also people
who have unexplained infertility.
3. A second child
is also sometimes adopted due to a secondary infertility
problem.
4. There are couples adopting out of choice,
have one and adopt one. (Mostly
adopting a child of the opposite sex to that of the
first child)
5. Single parents
Very few couples choose to have a child only through
adoption.
The number of families in India, desirous of adopting
children from BSSK is increasing rapidly. BSSK is particular
in complying with all procedures, rules and regulations.
We would like to inform all parents that the following
regulations would have to be adhered by them when they
adopt a child:
The social worker will fix a mutually convenient
date with the adoptive family for the adoption study.
The adoptive family must adhere to the date fixed (unless
in emergency), as the social worker has to accommodate
several similar appointments.
The process takes about 7 to 10 working days.
At first, the social worker completes the individual
and joint interviews with the adoptive couple. After
the adoption study is conducted then the same is discussed
with a senior staff before family is approved for child
proposal.
BSSK then tries to match a child with the family.
The family then gets to see the child’s social
information (non-identifying) and the medical file.
The social worker and child development worker are
present to answer the family’s queries, upon
which the family can make a decision.
Once the child is accepted, the child-care, social
worker and the lawyer has to prepare the relevant paper
work that has to be submitted to the court at the time
of filing the case. After filing the case in the court,
the child can be then placed with the family under
pre-adoptive foster care.
After filing a case in the court, it takes approximately
4 to 8 months for the entire process to get completed.
This period changes from time to time, depending on
the volume of pending cases in the Court.
When the case comes up for hearing in the court, the
adoptive parents along with the child are required
to be present in the Court. This requirement is for
those adoption cases filed under Hindu Adoption and
Maintenance Act 1956.
Adoptive parents will have to be then available for
signing the Deed of Adoption and complete the adoption
procedure. The Social worker will get in touch with
Adoptive parents in advance to schedule the date for
executing adoption deed.
Due to holidays, absence of the Judge/Lawyer, the case
may be delayed, which is beyond BSSK's control.
A family should not go directly to the Court/ICSW (scrutiny
body for the court) to pursue their case. Influence
of any kind is strictly prohibited as this may jeopardise
other pending cases that will come up for hearing.
BSSK has a long waiting list of families wanting to
adopt children. The approximate waiting period is informed
upon registration. Every family in the waiting list
is anxious to adopt a child as early as possible and
BSSK assures of their wholehearted co-operation.
BSSK
does not accept money or gifts from families who wish
to push their way on top of the waiting list. BSSK
is highly regarded in the field of Child Care and Adoptions
and discourages all unethical practices in the process
of adoption.
No tips/gifts in kind or cash should be given to any
caretaker/Child Care Worker/social worker/administrative
staff of BSSK. This request is made as every child
that is adopted through BSSK includes the participation
of all the staff as a result of teamwork.
The adoption policies remain the
same at Pune, Aurangabad and Sangli. The
processing may slightly differ at the above centers,
especially in the court matters. The above is a general
guideline to assist families in preparing them in
their adoption. The requirements/process is subject
to change as per new changes in guidelines and policies.
General Donations through cheque / draft or kind are
most welcome and it should be made at the BSSK office
against a receipt.
BSSK solicits the
cooperation and understanding of all patrons.
