BSSK receives orphan
and destitute children for care, protection and
rehabilitation. If
a child’s
birth family cannot be located, placing the child
in adoption is considered to be the best option. Through
adoption, we try to preserve a child’s right
to a loving family.
Adoption gives a child a
social status, an opportunity to education and a family's
support during childhood and beyond. BSSK is
fortunate to have many people approaching us for adoption,
and hence most of our children are placed in adoption. However,
there are certain children for whom we are unable to
find adoptive families due to their special needs. It
is sad that these are the children who need the families
the most, but can not be placed in adoption. BSSK
can take care of children only upto the age of 6 years. Hence
it becomes necessary to transfer such children to special
institutions where they could be cared for as long
as needed.
The children with special needs include -
1. Physically and mentally challenged children (severely,
or moderately )
2. Children affected by HIV
BSSK
has had such children before and have them at present
and will have them in the future too. Transfering
such children to a reasonably good institution has
always been a challenge. There are very few
homes like this that are run by the government, and
they are usually overcrowded, and do not have regular
vacancies. There are such homes run by NGOs
which have vacancies and good facilities but require
funding for maintaining quality of care. They
expect a certain amount of money to be given as a donation
and a certain amount per month for the upkeep of the
child. BSSK
requires sponsors to help us in this regard. We
have so far transfered a number of children to various
institutions with the support of generous sponsors.
