Since the journey that began in 1979, Bharatiya Samaj Seva Kendra has been evolving continuously. BSSK provides professional social, welfare services to children, women and families in need. BSSK is involved in 'Seva' or service, as a non-profit making, non-political Indian Charitable Trust.
BSSK’s programmes include – a Child Care Centre, Foster Family Care, Adoption and Community Centre which supports children for Educational Sponsorship activities.
In order to reach out to the needy children and families residing in various parts of Maharashtra, BSSK started its branch offices in 1995 at Aurangabad and Chiplun, in 1997 at Sangli. The branches are carrying out the similar programs in Chiplun, Aurangabad and Sangli.
BSSK is licensed to look after children from new born to 6 years of age. We have about 160 children from the age group of new born to 6 years in our care at any given point of time. At BSSK we endeavor to give children the best stimulation, nutrition, medical care, warmth, love and emotional security. Our main principle is to preserve and maintain a child’s birth family. BSSK makes concerted efforts to restore a child to its birth family when a crisis has been overcome. In the best interest of the child, the next best option is to find adoptive homes for the orphaned children.
The educational sponsorship programme started several linked services in the early 1980s. In 1984 special efforts were made to encourage Indian sponsors to sponsor a child’s education. In 1991 a community programme ‘Deesha’ was initiated. Presently, we have about 800 children under our Educational Sponsorship Program. We support lesser privileged / economically challenged children through our regular Family Health Clinics, Nutrition Programmes, Health Camps and awareness through Family Life Education.
Our programmes have been continuously reassessed and remodeled to suit the changing needs of community we serve. Our approach has always been to provide integrated services by a team of qualified, experienced and dedicated workers.
To secure the basic right of every child to family life, BSSK was established in Pune with the help of Holt International Children's Services (HICS) based at Eugene, Oregon, in the USA. HICS is a nonpolitical organization which has supported worldwide child welfare programmes through independent Child Care agencies in several countries. HICS continues to support BSSK's various programmes.
VERDENS BARN - Children of the World, Norway (CWN) is an agency which also upholds the basic rights of children the world over. It is based in Oslo and largely supports BSSK's multi-service Family Welfare Programmes.
Inter-country Adoption Resource Network (ICARN) – ICARN (Australia) is a group of adoptive parents, educators and researchers with long standing involvement in inter-country adoption practice and programmes in Victoria. They also uphold the basic rights of all children, and largely support our educational sponsorship programme at Chiplun.
Sponsors from India and from Overseas support children under our Educational Sponsorship Programme / Community Centre. They also provide donations in kind from time to time.
Well wishers, Institutions, Organizations, Corporates from India and Overseas support our activities by giving general or designated donations in money or kind.
BSSK requires the continuous support from the above concerned in helping meet the growing needs and services of BSSK. This has helped us in expanding our programmes and services and reaching out to more children and families.
